Why Dua Lipa and Harry Styles vanish from most UK lists
Country rankings tend to follow the audience instead of the owner. Hafi, for example, describes its UK page as the accounts most popular with UK audiences, so a British singer with a mainly American following lands on the US chart.
What most lists get wrong: Hafi's UK Instagram ranking opens with David Beckham and never mentions Dua Lipa, Emma Watson, Millie Bobby Brown, Tom Holland, Adele, Ed Sheeran or Harry Styles. All seven appear on its United States page instead, and Zayn Malik turns up on its India page.
The same UK page also counts eight accounts that aren't British, including Virgil van Dijk, Jürgen Klopp and H&M Home. So eight of our top 10 are missing from it, while overseas names take their places.
How we built the ranking
- Started from the tracker's UK list on 24 September 2026 and removed the eight accounts run by non-British people or foreign companies.
- Added British stars, clubs and brands that trackers file under other countries, checking more than 200 extra handles by hand.
- Kept British people, UK-based organisations and brands with a UK head office, such as Burberry, Jaguar and the F1 teams based in England.
- Read each follower count from the live profile or Social Blade on the same day, then sorted from highest to lowest.
Handles matter here. Several stars have changed usernames (Lando Norris now posts as @lando), so we matched every handle to the official account before counting it.
Who just missed the cut
The gap between 99th and 105th place is only 280,000 followers. Six well-known accounts sit just below The Economist, the last entry on 8.6 million:

Saka is the one to watch. At 8.4 million he sits about 176,000 followers short of the list, a gap one strong month could close. John Terry is even nearer the Sussex account, trailing it by roughly 73,000 followers, so the order below the line can flip in a week.
What the top 99 says about British Instagram
Musicians hold 21 places, more than any other group. Actors and models take 16, athletes 15 and brands 15, while creators who built their fame on social media hold only five.
That last number stands out. Our UK TikTok ranking has 43 home-grown creators in its top 100, but Instagram's biggest British accounts still belong mostly to people who were famous first. One family shows how far that can reach: David, Victoria and Brooklyn Beckham all make the list, and so do five accounts tied to One Direction, counting the band page, the late Liam Payne, Zayn, Harry and Louis.
Growth on Instagram still rewards early engagement. Instagram's own ranking explainer says Explore weighs how many people like, comment on, share and save a post, and how quickly they do it. British brands hold their own
UK labels travel well on Instagram. Burberry (19.9 million), Jimmy Choo (13.4 million) and McQueen (12.8 million) lead the fashion houses, and six British car brands clear 10 million, from Jaguar down to Range Rover.
Fast fashion is close behind. PrettyLittleThing, ASOS, Topshop, Primark and boohoo all sit above 11 million followers, which puts five high-street names in the same bracket as Tom Hardy and Jeremy Clarkson.
How a smaller UK account starts climbing
