How to Make Money on TikTok: A UK Guide to 2026, 2027 and AI
How to make money on TikTok in the UK: 7 income streams, TikTok's real requirements (from 500 followers), how pay works and how to use AI safely.

In this article
Quick answer: Here's how to make money on TikTok as a UK creator: Creator Rewards, LIVE Gifts, Video Gifts, Subscription, TikTok Shop affiliate, brand deals via TikTok One and your own products. Most need you to be 18+. Shop affiliate opens at 500 followers, LIVE at 1,000 and Creator Rewards at 10,000. Realistic AI content needs a label.
You want TikTok to pay you, and every guide quotes a different number. One says £0.02 per 1,000 views. Another says £1.50.
TikTok publishes neither, and its Creator Rewards terms class reward details as confidential. This guide sticks to what TikTok, HMRC and the ASA have published, checked in October 2026, and shows how AI fits in without breaking the rules that decide who TikTok pays.
Is TikTok worth it in 2026?
Yes, for UK creators who post consistently. More than 30 million people in the UK use TikTok every month, according to TikTok's own figures for early 2025, which makes the UK its largest community in Europe. Plenty of them post as well as watch: a Public First report commissioned by TikTok and published in July 2026 counted around 8 million British "casual creators" who post regularly without doing it full-time.
Discovery is the real draw. Metricool's TikTok Study 2026, which analysed more than 2.3 million posts from 92,000 accounts, found that 73% of views come from the For You feed. Your follower count doesn't cap the reach of your first videos.
Here's what stands out. Each point comes from TikTok's own pages or the Metricool study.
- Most views come from For You, so strangers see new accounts from day one.
- Four of the seven income routes open below 10,000 followers.
- TikTok Shop sits inside the app, so a product video can earn commission the moment a viewer buys.
- TikTok now builds its own AI editing and planning tools for creators.
The catch is crowding. Metricool measured a 72% rise in video posts over a year, and 96% of a post's views arrive within its first 10 days, which makes a slow start expensive. Early TikTok likes help here. The first viewers decide in seconds whether a video looks worth their time.
What about the US sale? In January 2026, a new joint venture took over TikTok's US business and changed who runs the app in America. UK creators sit outside that deal: TikTok's Creator Academy, updated in August 2026, still lists the UK as eligible for Creator Rewards.
7 ways UK creators make money on TikTok
Seven routes pay UK creators, and the follower minimums differ far more than most guides admit. This table sets each one against TikTok's own requirement pages. We checked every figure against those pages in October 2026, so the numbers below reflect TikTok's rules as they stood then.
| Income stream | Who pays you | TikTok's requirement | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creator Rewards Programme | TikTok | 18+, Personal account, 10,000 followers, 100,000 video views across the past 30 days, original videos of one minute or longer | Creators who make longer videos |
| LIVE Gifts | Your viewers, through TikTok | 18+, 1,000 followers (TikTok says this can vary by region) | Chatty hosts, gamers, Q&A formats |
| Video Gifts | Your viewers, through TikTok | 18+, 10,000 followers, account at least 30 days old, a public post within the past 30 days | Accounts with loyal fans |
| Subscription | Your subscribers | 18+, 10,000 followers, plus 100,000 views over the last calendar month | Creators with a core fan base |
| TikTok Shop affiliate | Sellers, as commission | 18+, 500 followers, a post in the last 28 days, account based in the UK | Product reviewers and small accounts |
| Brand deals (TikTok One) | Brands | 18+ to join, 1,000+ followers for most projects | Niche creators with engaged viewers |
| Your own products | Your customers | TikTok Shop seller rules, or sell off TikTok | Makers, coaches and small businesses |
Creator Rewards Programme: paid per qualified view
Creator Rewards is TikTok's own payment for longer videos. To qualify, you need to be 18 or over, use a Personal account, and build 10,000 followers plus 100,000 video views across the past 30 days, according to TikTok's Creator Rewards eligibility rules. Business accounts can't join.
Only original videos of a minute or longer count, and only those posted after you join. Each one must clear 1,000 qualified views before it earns a penny. UK accounts are on the eligible list.
LIVE Gifts, Video Gifts and Subscription: paid by your fans
These three turn loyal viewers into income. Going LIVE takes age 18 and 1,000 followers, although TikTok says the follower number can vary by region. Viewers send Gifts, you collect Diamonds, and TikTok's Rewards Policy, which covers the UK, bases LIVE payments on Diamonds plus factors such as time spent LIVE, new followers and stream quality. So no fixed gift-to-cash rate exists on paper.
Subscription asks for 10,000 followers, plus 100,000 views over the last calendar month. Creators keep 70% after app-store fees, rising to 90% with a monthly bonus, according to Creator Academy. Video Gifts, tips on ordinary videos, open at 10,000 followers.
TikTok Shop affiliate: the lowest bar, at 500 followers
Shop affiliate is the easiest stream to open in the UK. TikTok Shop UK's creator eligibility policy asks for 500 genuine followers, age 18+, a video posted in the last 28 days and an account based in the UK.
Sellers set the commission on each product. Some open a product to any creator, while others invite chosen creators at a higher rate. Our TikTok Shop affiliate guide covers picking products and filming reviews.
Brand deals through TikTok One
Brands find creators through TikTok One, which now includes Creator Marketplace. You can join at 18, and most projects ask for at least 1,000 followers, paid as a flat fee or a revenue share wherever TikTok One is live.
One UK rule matters here. The ASA expects a clear "Ad" label at the very start of a paid post. Bury it among hashtags or under "See more" and it won't count.
What most guides get wrong: TikTok Shop UK's current policy sets the affiliate bar at 500 followers, so figures of 1,000 or 5,000 are out of date. The Creator Fund and "Creativity Programme" names are old too. No official TikTok page gives a pay rate per 1,000 views, and none says how much TikTok keeps from LIVE Gifts, whatever you read elsewhere.
How much does TikTok pay in the UK?
There's no published rate. TikTok pays each creator differently, and its Creator Rewards terms say it works out rewards dynamically and keeps the details confidential. What it does publish is the formula behind your RPM, short for revenue per 1,000 qualified views.
That formula has two parts, according to how TikTok calculates Creator Rewards. Both depend on your own videos and audience:
- A Standard Reward, set by qualified views, where your viewers live and the language of your content.
- An Additional Reward, set by watch time, retention, completion rate, search value and how well-made the video is.
A qualified view is unique and lasts at least five seconds. Fraudulent, paid and promoted views drop out, and so do views from people who tap "Not interested". Shorter glances earn nothing.
The sum itself is simple. Divide your qualified views by 1,000, then multiply by your RPM. A video with a million views will rarely carry a million qualified views, because quick swipes and promoted views never qualify, and region and language shift the Standard Reward as well.
That's why two UK creators with identical view counts can earn very different amounts. Watch time and completion feed the Additional Reward, so a tight one-minute video can out-earn a padded three-minute one. Treat every "£X per 1,000 views" figure online as one creator's self-report. Your own RPM is the only number worth planning around.
How to make money on TikTok using AI without losing eligibility
AI makes you faster, but TikTok pays for original work and expects honesty about realistic AI. Get those two rules right and AI helps you earn. Get them wrong and your videos stop earning, however polished they look.
Start with labels. TikTok's AI-generated content label rules, updated in September 2026, say you must label AI content that shows realistic people or scenes. That covers face swaps, clips that make someone say words they never said, and a copied real voice.
Minor edits, anime-style art and generic text-to-speech need no label. TikTok can remove unlabelled realistic AI. The label stays on once you post, and it doesn't cut your reach.
Labelling also happens automatically. Since 9 May 2024, TikTok has read C2PA Content Credentials, the tags some AI apps attach to files, and labelled matching uploads itself. In November 2025 it announced invisible watermarks for content made with its own AI tools.
Originality decides the money. Copied clips, lightly edited reposts, compilations, loops and slideshows can't earn through TikTok's monetisation programmes. For LIVE, the UK guidelines go further: a stream run mainly by AI or other automated tools, without a real creator taking part, may not earn at all.
TikTok also ships its own AI tools. Four matter for creators:
- AI Alive (May 2025) turns a still photo into a short video and labels it automatically.
- Smart Split (October 2025) cuts a long video into captioned short clips on TikTok Studio Web, free for accounts with 1,000+ followers, up to 150 minutes a month.
- AI Outline (October 2025) drafts titles, hooks, hashtags and a video outline, in select markets.
- Symphony, TikTok's AI suite for advertisers, makes avatars and dubbed ads. It's worth knowing if you make UGC videos for brands.
The table below sorts common AI jobs by risk, from the safe uses that save you hours to the shortcuts that can cost you a payout. Check it before you post.
| AI job | Good use | Risky use | Rule that applies |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ideas and hooks | Brainstorm angles, then film your own take | Reading an AI script word for word | Originality |
| Editing and clips | Smart Split on your own long videos | Clipping other creators' videos | Originality |
| Voices and dubbing | Translating your own videos | Copying a real person's voice, unlabelled | AI label |
| Visuals | AI Alive on your own photos | Realistic fake people or scenes, unlabelled | AI label |
| LIVE | Notes and prompts while you host | A LIVE run by AI with no creator present | UK LIVE guidelines |
| Shop and brand videos | Product demos you film yourself | Fake reviews or invented customer stories | ASA and UK fake-review law |

What about TikTok in 2027?
As of October 2026, TikTok hasn't announced any 2027 creator features or pay changes. We checked its newsroom, Creator Academy and TikTok Shop UK pages, and found nothing official. Treat any "2027 TikTok pay rates" article as guesswork.
Some 2027 dates are already fixed, though. Plan around these:
- The ASA says it will update its influencer guide to reflect the DMCC Act, the UK consumer law that replaced the old consumer protection rules. Its current advice "remains broadly correct", but recheck the guide before signing brand deals in 2027.
- Earn over £1,000 from TikTok and other side work in the 2026-27 tax year (6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027), and HMRC's rule means registering for Self Assessment by 5 October 2027.
- AI labelling keeps widening. By November 2025, TikTok's labels covered more than 1.3 billion videos, and TikTok has announced invisible watermarks for content from its own AI tools.
Our view, and it's opinion rather than a TikTok announcement: creators who post original work, use AI to speed up editing and earn from two or more streams will cope best with whatever changes next. Single-stream accounts carry the most risk. If one programme changes its rules, a second stream keeps money coming in.
A 90-day plan to start earning on TikTok in the UK
Follow TikTok's thresholds from the lowest bar to the highest. No plan can promise a pace, since growth depends on your niche and your videos. The order of the steps, though, works for every new account. Each stage builds on the one before.
| Days | Goal | What to do | Income streams in reach |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-30 | Find your rhythm | Keep a Personal account, pick one niche, post on a fixed schedule, reply to every comment | None yet, building towards 500 followers |
| 31-60 | Reach 500 followers | Apply for TikTok Shop affiliate, review products that fit your niche, test AI Outline for hooks, label realistic AI | TikTok Shop affiliate |
| 61-90 | Reach 1,000 followers | Go LIVE weekly, join TikTok One, use Smart Split on longer videos, post originals over one minute | LIVE Gifts, TikTok One projects, then Creator Rewards at 10,000 |

The first month is about rhythm. With 96% of a post's views arriving inside 10 days, a fixed posting schedule beats bursts of activity followed by weeks of silence. Pick one niche and stay in it. Our guide to getting more likes on TikTok has hook and caption ideas for this stage.
Month two opens your first income stream. At 500 followers, apply for TikTok Shop affiliate and review products you'd genuinely use, because viewers can tell when a creator is reading a sales sheet. Try AI Outline for hooks where it's available, and label any realistic AI before you post.
By the third month, push for 1,000 followers. That opens LIVE and most TikTok One projects, and Smart Split becomes available for turning long videos into clips. Start posting originals of a minute or more now, so a library is ready when you reach 10,000 followers and 100,000 monthly views. Knowing how the TikTok algorithm works helps you decide which ideas deserve the longer format.
Track what you earn from the first sale onwards. HMRC's £1,000 allowance runs per tax year, and the next section explains when you need to register.
Do you pay tax on TikTok income in the UK?
You must tell HMRC once your income from TikTok and other side work passes £1,000 in a tax year. HMRC's £1,000 trading allowance covers everything up to that point. Below it, you generally don't need to register at all.
Over £1,000, register for Self Assessment by 5 October after the tax year ends. The UK tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April, so income from April 2026 to April 2027 falls into one year. HMRC's Tax Help for Hustles campaign adds a detail many creators miss: free products and services you get for promoting a brand count as income too. Miss the deadline and HMRC can charge a penalty.
Registering doesn't always mean paying. Tax falls due only once your total income passes the £12,570 personal allowance. For UK LIVE rewards, TikTok's Rewards Policy names TikTok Information Technologies UK Limited as the company handling payment and tax obligations. Keep a record of every payout and gifted product from day one.
Mistakes that stop UK creators getting paid
Most lost payouts trace back to a short list of avoidable slips. Check your account against each one before you apply for anything.
- Business accounts: Creator Rewards excludes them, so switch to a Personal account before you apply.
- Short videos: anything under one minute never counts towards Creator Rewards, whatever its view count.
- Reposts, compilations and loops: TikTok treats them as unoriginal, so they can't earn through its monetisation programmes.
- Unlabelled realistic AI: TikTok can remove it, and you can't remove the label once it's on.
- Hidden ad labels: the ASA wants "Ad" upfront, never lost in a pile of hashtags.
- Quiet Shop accounts: UK affiliate permissions need a video posted in the last 28 days.
- AI-run LIVEs: TikTok's UK guidelines say streams without a real creator present may not earn.
- Under-18 accounts: every TikTok monetisation feature requires age 18+, so younger creators can't use them yet.
Fix these before you chase more views. A video that breaks one of these rules earns nothing, however well it performs, and some breaches put your whole account's eligibility at risk. Run through the list again whenever TikTok updates its Creator Academy pages.
AI makes the video. Social proof makes people take it seriously.
Every income stream here starts with strangers deciding, in seconds, whether your video deserves their attention. A new upload with no likes makes that harder. So does a profile with only a handful of followers.
Social proof fixes the first impression. Adding TikTok UK likes to a new upload shows British viewers that people like them already enjoyed it. Fresh videos get a busy first impression from TikTok views, and UK TikTok views do the same job with an audience based in Britain.
Brands checking you on TikTok One see an established profile when TikTok followers back it up. When you start streaming, TikTok LIVE viewers fill the room, so real viewers who drop in find an active LIVE.
Creator Rewards pays on qualified views from original videos, so use paid social proof for what it does best: a faster start and a profile people trust. Pair it with the AI workflow above and your time goes into the videos only you can make. No password required. Our 30-day refill guarantee covers your likes, views and followers.
Frequently asked questions
Can you earn money on TikTok with 1,000 followers?
Yes. At 1,000 followers and age 18+, you can usually go LIVE and receive Gifts, and most TikTok One brand projects open up. Shop affiliate arrives even sooner, at 500 followers in the UK. Creator Rewards needs 10,000 followers and 100,000 views over the past 30 days.
Can you earn on TikTok without showing your face?
Yes. Shop affiliate demos, voiceovers, tutorials and your own products all work without your face on screen. Your videos still need to be original. Realistic AI people need TikTok's AI label, and TikTok's UK LIVE guidelines say streams run by AI without a real creator present may not earn.
How long before you start earning on TikTok?
There's no set timeline, and TikTok doesn't publish one. In the UK, the quickest route is TikTok Shop affiliate, which needs 500 followers, a post in the last 28 days and age 18+. Expect Creator Rewards to take longest, because of its 10,000-follower bar.
Can under-18s earn money on TikTok?
No. Creator Rewards, LIVE Gifts, Video Gifts, Subscription, TikTok Shop affiliate and TikTok One all require you to be 18 or over. Younger users can still post videos and build an audience, but every one of TikTok's monetisation features stays locked until their 18th birthday.
How do UK creators get paid by TikTok?
Through the payout method you add in TikTok's rewards settings. For UK LIVE rewards, TikTok Information Technologies UK Limited handles payment and tax obligations under TikTok's Rewards Policy. Minimum withdrawals and fees appear on TikTok's payment limits page, and those figures can change.
Is the TikTok Creator Fund still running?
No. TikTok's current programme is Creator Rewards, announced on 18 March 2024 to replace the Creativity Program Beta. The Creator Fund doesn't appear in TikTok's 2026 monetisation overview, so guides quoting Creator Fund rates are out of date. Check that any pay figure you read names Creator Rewards.
