How Many Followers to Go LIVE on TikTok? The UK Rules for 2026 and 2027
You need 1,000 followers and must be 18+ to go LIVE on TikTok in the UK. TikTok's own rules, how to join a LIVE as a guest and what changes in 2027.

In this article
Quick answer: TikTok requires 1,000 followers before you can host a LIVE, and you must be at least 18. TikTok says the follower number may vary by region, and LIVE isn't available everywhere. Below 1,000 followers, you can still appear on someone else's LIVE as a guest through TikTok's multi-guest feature.
You've got a few hundred followers, an idea for a stream, and no LIVE button. Most guides tell you a different number, and many still quote an age limit TikTok has since raised.
So how many followers to go LIVE on TikTok do you really need? Here's what TikTok's own support pages say in October 2026, how to go LIVE once you qualify, the legitimate way onto LIVE before you hit 1,000, and the UK changes coming in 2027.
How many followers to go LIVE on TikTok: the UK answer
The answer is 1,000 followers. TikTok's support page What is TikTok LIVE? lists three requirements to use LIVE: be at least 18 to go LIVE, be at least 18 (19 in South Korea) to send or receive gifts, and have 1,000 followers to go LIVE. It adds that the follower number may vary across regions.
| Requirement | TikTok's rule | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Followers | 1,000 | May vary across regions |
| Age to go LIVE | 18 or over | Applies to every host |
| Age to send or receive gifts | 18 or over | 19 in South Korea |
| Account standing | Follow the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service | Breaking them can cost you access |
| Location | LIVE isn't available everywhere | The same applies to gifts |

What most guides get wrong: they still say you can go LIVE at 16. TikTok's current support page sets the minimum age to go LIVE at 18, so a 16 or 17-year-old won't get the button however many followers they have.
The age rule matters as much as the number. Gifting has been 18+ since TikTok changed its gifting policy in December 2019, and hosting LIVE now follows the same line.
How to go LIVE on TikTok, step by step
Once you meet the requirements, going LIVE takes four taps. TikTok's support page gives these steps:
- In the TikTok app, tap the Add post (+) button at the bottom.
- Tap LIVE at the bottom. You may need to scroll across to find it.
- Add a title, use LIVE tools or adjust your LIVE settings.
- Tap Go LIVE.
You can change tools and safety settings during the stream by tapping More at the bottom, then Settings. To finish, tap End LIVE at the top, then End now.
Big stream planned? Add moderators first. In the multi-guest settings you can add or remove moderators and give them permission to use certain LIVE settings, which helps when comments move fast.
A title does more work than it looks. Viewers find LIVEs on their For You and Following feeds, in search results and on creators' profiles, according to TikTok, so a clear title helps people decide to tap in.
Can you go LIVE without 1,000 followers?
Not as a host, but you can appear on another creator's LIVE as a guest. TikTok's multi-guest help page explains that creators can host guests in audio or video mode, either by accepting requests from viewers or by inviting people in. To ask to join someone's LIVE:
- During their LIVE, tap Multi-guest at the bottom, then tap Request.
- Once they accept, adjust your LIVE video settings.
- Tap Go LIVE when you're ready.
TikTok's page doesn't list a follower minimum for guests. The host controls who can request, though: they can allow requests from all viewers or from followers only, and the multi-guest option isn't available on every LIVE.

Guest spots are a smart way to grow, too. Viewers of a bigger creator's LIVE see you on screen, and some will tap through to your profile.
You'll also see claims that contacting TikTok support gets you LIVE early. TikTok documents no such exception, so treat it as a rumour rather than a plan.
How to reach 1,000 followers faster
Reaching 1,000 followers comes down to giving the For You feed more chances to show your work. TikTok's Creator Academy says the best way to get more traffic from the recommendation system is to post more often, because each video gives the system another chance to find the right audience. These habits help:
- Pick one niche. People follow accounts when they know what they'll get next.
- Post consistently. More videos mean more chances for the For You feed to test your content.
- Hook in the first seconds. TikTok's analytics track retention, so watch where viewers drop off and fix those moments.
- Join other LIVEs as a guest. Each guest spot puts your face in front of an audience that's already engaged.
- Check your analytics weekly. The Followers tab in TikTok Studio shows when your followers are active and where they live.
Once you're close, a busy-looking profile helps. New visitors judge an account quickly, and a profile that already shows followers and engagement looks like one worth following.
Once you're LIVE: gifts and analytics
LIVE Gifts are a separate switch. TikTok's support page on LIVE Gifts says you must live somewhere gifts are available, be 18 or older (19 in South Korea), be eligible to go LIVE and have an account in good standing. Government, politician and political party accounts can't collect Diamonds through gifts.
Every stream feeds your analytics. TikTok's Creator Academy says the LIVE tab in TikTok Studio shows your number of LIVEs, total LIVE views, total LIVE time, new viewers, new followers, unique viewers and the Diamonds you collected, over the last 7 to 28 days. At the end of each stream, your LIVE summary also shows the total Diamonds you collected. Use both to compare stream times and formats.
What changes for TikTok LIVE in 2027
LIVE hosting is already 18+, so the biggest 2027 changes affect your audience rather than your access. The government said on 15 July 2026 that it expects its ban on social media services for under-16s to start in spring 2027. The same announcement set out default overnight curfews from midnight to 6am for 16 and 17-year-olds, with no start date confirmed.
Our view: if your viewers are mostly teenagers, plan for smaller late-night audiences and fewer under-16 viewers from 2027. Streams aimed at adults shouldn't notice much.

A LIVE needs people in the room
Hitting 1,000 followers gets you the button. What keeps a stream going is a viewer count that tells newcomers something worth watching is happening.
Mega Followers UK helps with that first impression. TikTok LIVE stream views, TikTok followers and TikTok likes come from real-looking accounts, with no password required and a 30-day refill guarantee. FAQ: going LIVE on TikTok
Can you go LIVE on TikTok at 16?
No. You must be at least 18 to go LIVE, according to TikTok's support page, so a 16 or 17-year-old can't host a stream, whatever their follower count. Older guides quote 16, but that's out of date. Sending or receiving gifts also needs you to be 18, or 19 in South Korea.
Why can't I go LIVE on TikTok with 1,000 followers?
Check the other requirements first: an age of 18 or over, LIVE being available where you live, and an account that follows TikTok's Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. TikTok also says the follower requirement may vary across regions, so 1,000 isn't guaranteed to be the number everywhere.
Do you need 1,000 followers to join someone's LIVE?
Not according to TikTok's multi-guest help page, which lists no follower minimum for guests. Guests request to join from the Multi-guest button during someone's LIVE, and the host decides whether to accept. Hosts can limit requests to their followers only, and some LIVEs don't offer multi-guest at all.
Is TikTok LIVE available in the UK?
Yes. LIVE and LIVE Gifts both work in the UK, though TikTok notes they aren't available in every country, and the usual rules apply here: 1,000 followers and an age of 18 or over to host. From spring 2027, the UK's planned under-16 ban will also change who can watch.
Can you make money from TikTok LIVE?
Yes, through LIVE Gifts. Viewers send gifts bought with coins, and TikTok awards Diamonds based on how popular your LIVE is. To earn, you need to be 18 or over, eligible to go LIVE and in good standing. Diamonds can then be withdrawn for money at a rate TikTok sets.
Does TikTok need 1,000 followers for LIVE in every country?
Not always. The 1,000-follower requirement may vary across regions, TikTok says, though it doesn't list which ones differ. In the UK, 1,000 is the number most creators see, so if you're above it and still stuck, check your age and your account standing.
